Read The Room

As I’ve been spending almost all of my time at home for the past few months I’ve found myself being more interested and invested in creating spaces around me that make me feel good and inspired.  Since then, I’ve started noticing parts of my home, particularly my room, that need some extra love and attention.

When I finished college and moved back home permanently I found my room right where I left it - in high school. I made some changes but till this day, 4 years later, I still have lots more to do in order for it to reflect my life at 26. I’ve gone from being the “queen of clutter and excess stuff” to less is more. I just can’t deal with too many “things” any more. If my room is a mess, I’m a mess…Oh, god, I really have become the person I never thought I’d be 😂.  But, minimalism in my mind should never, ever be boring. I still love and need pops of color and inspiration in my room.

I’ve had this blank wall above my bed for the past year and I’ve had absolutely no idea what to do with it. After endless hours of scrolling and pinning, Pinterest came through and inspired me to create a photo wall of artwork and graphics. My goal was to make sure that the pieces I chose had meaning and/or provided some form of inspiration for me.

I am also a big fan of words of affirmation and empowerment so I was thrilled to find three other graphics in their Typography and Quotes shop. I went with these Blessed and Keep Learning, Keep Growing designs - two reminders I need daily. My final and absolute favorite piece from my Desenio picks is the Red Statue that says “There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise”. That. Part.

I am very excited to share that Desenio came to the rescue and kindly gifted me some of their pieces to bring my vision to life. While scrolling through their site there were endless options for me to choose from. I ended up going with three “artsy” posters that fit the calm yet bold vibe of my room: The Three Faces Line Art, Cactus Corner and Pink Banana Leaves. I am madly in love with cacti and palm trees/ banana leaves, they make me so happy and remind me of being outdoors and feeling the warmth of the Sun.

I know this this may seem like it’s just a photo wall, but for me my room says a lot about how I am feeling mentally. When it’s messy and I haven’t hung up my clothes, I know it’s a reflection of my mind feeling uneasy and going through something. I hope this post inspires you to check in with your surroundings and even more, check in with yourself: is what is around you a good representation of how you are feeling? Are there areas around you, whether in your room or different aspects of your home, that could bring you more joy? Sometimes changing even the smallest section of your room or living area can change your space’s energy.

Thank you again to Desenio for gifting me the frames!
